Illusions

There’s no evidence to suggest the Chinese ever used this as a torture method, the performer is hoisted above a water-filled tank, his feet locked in wooden stocks, and lowered inside. The stocks were locked to the top of the tank, a curtain was drawn, and assistants then looked increasingly frantic as the seconds ticked past. Eventually, when all hope seemed lost, a damp performer would appear free from all bonds standing on the top of the tank.

This is a one off illusion built by David Mendoza. You see a performer being cut in half by a large buzz saw with no boxes. Their legs move at all times. This is a truly unique illusion.

It does as the names describes! A performer is locked, chained and handcuffed to a table. Hanging high over his or her head are 26 sharp spikes. The 2nd performer is then covered and rises even higher as the cloth she is covered with falls to the ground and the 2nd performer has gone... vanished in mid air.

A pantomime horse enters the box, and is then sawn in half with various comedy routines. At the end of the illusion the Pantomime horse disappears from the box only to be replaced by a live Pony.

Two spectators hold the rope that keep the performer immobile on the table. Two boxes are shown and placed over the performer; the boxes are then separated, cutting the performer in half! Throughout the effect the spectators hold the ropes tight, keeping the performer locked inside the separated boxes.

Levitation (from Latin levitas "lightness") is the process by which an object is suspended by a physical force against gravity, in a stable position without solid physical contact. A number of different techniques have been developed to levitate, we have every single one of them in stock ready to hire!

Audience Acupuncture is a variation on the Spiker illusion. It has a number of advantages over conventional Spiker-type illusions. One advantage of this illusion over older Spiker-type illusions is that the assistant's head and feet remain in full view of the audience at all times. This antique sawing has been used in a number of television programmes.

A person enters an upright cabinet, which when closed shows only her legs. Blades are then inserted through the cabinet, one through the neck area and the other through the knees, dividing her into three. The box containing her head is opened to show that her head is still in place. The centre and back of the cabinet is opened to show that her body has vanished. Only her legs and head are visible...

An act known for its versatility, the concept was created by George Robey in 1919 but made famous by Danish-born Minnesota magician Harry Jansen, better known as Dante. There are so many variations, any is good so as long as you make the audience think one thing will happen, but instead they are fooled again.

Jaws of Death meaning: In great danger; having a near death experience. This expression is usually used with the prepositions in or out of. It is often used to explain that someone was saved moments before he could have died. This illusion is an upside down straight jacket escape. The performer has moments to escape before the rope burns through and the jaws snaps shut onto the performer.

 

This Illusion is a variation of the Metamorphosis or Substitution Trunk magic illusion. It was created in the 1970s by Alan Wakeling for Mark Wilson. The tank/trunk is filled with water, a performer is locked inside the tank, which is then covered by a cloth. A switch is then performed with another person outside the trunk.

This illusion was created by Jim Steinmeyer. This illusion intrigues and puzzles the audience. The magician's assistant seems to gradually disappear behind a number of square panels, leaving only the head visible. Then completely disappearing the assistant, bit by bit!

This is a fun illusion to disappearing an large performer, for them only to appear within the audience seconds later.

Blade/Sword Box Illusion Red with metal swords. The effect is the assistant is penetrated by the swords whilst her/his head is on full view out of the top of the illusion. This was performed by Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee the first time on The Paul Daniels Magic show for BBC TV 1993 after which they performed it on a few guest performances and on tour.
